Spoilers / Goofs:
  • And where are they getting all the supplies for all the bloody wax, huh?
  • How did they have any money to power the whole town
  • I find it very hard to believe that one town could get forgotton and be very well wiped off the map
  • Very clichéd at the start: group of teens, out camping, things going missing, the wrong turn, the loud music that blocks out the phone ringing

My vote: 6.5 out of 10.
Very gory and graphic, not for the squeamish.
Quite good plot and storyline, although very clichéd in parts.

On a boring Friday night, when my sister suggested going to see House of Wax, I had low expectations going into it and was very doubtful that it would be any good, it seemed badly casted, with PARIS HILTON for gods sake, but it seemed like a cheesy popcorn horror movie so I went to the cinema, only to come out thinking how gripping it was.
The plot line is quite simple, although the build-up is very clichéd. Group of teenagers go on a road trip and camp out, only to be stalked by a vicious killers. A man and his siamese twin take over the wax works which was run by their mother, and turn the entire town (which has been conviently forgotten) into wax, and luring victims into the rigged town and to their deaths to become wax figures. Once the characters wander into this town, then the horror starts, although it takes a good three quaters of the movie to get into the gore, like all horror movies.
Full of loads and loads of gore, I think its only major competetion is Saw. This movie is like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre crossed with Psycho, full of lots of suspence and well built up characters, where you don't actually want them to die, like in so many other movies.
An excellent performance from Elisha Cuthbert as Carley and Chad Michael Murray as her twin brother Nick. The other characters are mediocre and Paris... well low expectations on her part was right, she sucks. But all in all if you like a good suspence movie that is actually quite scary in some parts (my sister did grip my knee a few times during it) then I recomend going to see this.
